Music
We have designed a history and geography-rich curriculum that connects learning by building an understanding of ideas, concepts, chronology and themes through the framework of ‘here, there, then, now, and next’. These thinking threads create opportunities to learn from the past to equip children for an ever-changing and exciting future.
As musicians, pupils are given the opportunity to develop a love and appreciation of a range of music through listening, evaluating and in turn creating, composing and performing using instruments and voices. Knowledge and understanding of the structure and notation of music is taught in a way which allows this to be applied to their own individual and group creations.
In music, we use Kapow which provides a knowledge-rich and progressive, small step curriculum. The scheme provides many examples of music styles and genres from different times and places. We aim to provide opportunities for children to learn to play musical instruments, with options available to build on these with additional instrumental lessons in school time (privately or in small groups), including financial support for Pupil Premium children.
Our music curriculum is further embedded through opportunities to experience live performances, regular singing assemblies and our whole-school Christmas production.
