Music
Our curriculum is designed to build pupils’ understanding of ideas, concepts, chronology, and themes through the framework of ‘here, there, then, now and next.’ This approach enables pupils to make meaningful connections, learn from the past, and prepare for an ever-changing and exciting future.
In music, pupils are encouraged to be curious, developing a deep love and appreciation of a wide range of music. They listen, evaluate, create, compose, and perform using instruments and voices, applying knowledge of musical structure and notation in both individual and collaborative compositions.
We use Kapow, a knowledge-rich and progressive curriculum, which exposes pupils to diverse musical styles and genres from across history and cultures. Pupils are supported to be courageous in experimenting with new instruments, techniques, and ideas, with opportunities to extend their learning through additional instrumental lessons in school (privately or in small groups), including support for Pupil Premium children.
Our curriculum is further strengthened through live performances, regular singing assemblies, and the whole-school Christmas production. These experiences foster a caring and collaborative environment, where pupils encourage and inspire one another while developing confidence, creativity, and resilience.
